Diagnosis of drug allergies
Basophil Activation Test (BAT) is a new and highly effective method for diagnosing immediate hypersensitivity reactions, in particular, drug allergy to antibiotics for systemic use. This cellular method for in vitro diagnostics of allergy is based on the assessment of changes in the expression of markers of activation and/or degranulation of basophils in response to an allergen using the flow cytometry method.
When assessing the clinical significance of a diagnosed allergen, BAT serves as the same functional test as a provocative test, but the performance of this study eliminates the potential risk to the patient.
Scientists of the Institute have developed a unique modification of BAT, which allows for the most reliable diagnosis of IgE-mediated allergy, taking into account the immunofunctional properties of basophils. The use of a specific positive control to exclude the phenomenon of “non-responding" basophils provides high diagnostic efficiency in relation to allergy to antibacterial drugs from the beta-lactam and fluoroquinolone groups with a sensitivity of up to 70-77% and a specificity of up to 90%.
