Public Association of Photobiologists and Biophysicists
For more than 25 years, the Belarusian Public Association of Photobiologists and Biophysicists (BPAPB), since May 2024 – Public Association of Photobiologists and Biophysicists (PAPB), has been operating at the Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (BPAPB), registered in August 1993 as an independent scientific organization of citizens, uniting on voluntary basis scientists, scientific intelligentsia, teachers and university students, working or studying in the field of photobiology and biophysics and studying life processes at the cellular and organism levels, specialists dealing with biophysical aspects of genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, as well as problems of cell engineering, nanobiology, nanobiotechnology, and other related sciences.
The purpose of the association is to promote the development of photobiology and biophysics in every possible way, to attract scientists and practitioners to create theoretical foundations for the further development of the agricultural sector, specialized sciences, to introduce the achievements of biophysics and photobiology into the national economy.
PAPB seeks to promote the convergence of photobiology and biophysics with other branches of biology – biochemistry, plant physiology, genetics, cytology, microbiology, genomics, proteomics, neurobiology, cell engineering, nanobiology, nanobiotechnology; to conduct research on the actions of microelements at the cellular and organismal levels with the aim of mutual enrichment of sciences; contribute to the training and advanced training of personnel, the achievement of the required level of information and social and educational work establishes relations with the media, carries out consulting, lecture and exhibition activities, strengthens and develops mutually beneficial international cooperation.
The society has 130 members working or studying in 12 scientific institutions – the Institute of Biophysics and Cell Engineering, the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, the Institute of Genetics and Cytology, the Institute of Physics named after B.I. Stepanov, Institute of Experimental Botany named after V.I. V.F. Kuprevich and the Institute of Biochemistry of Biologically Active Compounds of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, BSU, BSMU, ISEI BSU, GSMU, Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, VSMU.
PAPB is a collective member of international photobiological and biophysical organizations such as the European Society of Photobiologists, the Russian Photobiological Society, the Society of Biophysicists of Russia, the International Society for Fundamental and Applied Biophysics (IUPAB), etc.
