CONSULTATION OF ONCOLOGIST
In the Department of Cellular Therapy, consultations are organized for patients with cancer. Reception is conducted by Alexander Vasilyevich Prokhorov, an oncologist of the highest qualification category with almost 40 years of experience, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Oncology of the Belarusian State Medical University. One of the main directions of scientific and practical activity of Alesandr Vasilyevich is immunotherapy of oncological diseases with the use of antitumor vaccines.
The consultation of a specialist of this level is, first of all, necessary for patients with already confirmed cancer in the treatment of which difficulties exist. Most often, the problems are associated with the recurrence of cancer and with the resistance of the tumor to standard complex treatment.
An experienced expert’s consultation can serve as a “second opinion” for those patients who are not sure about the optimal therapy chosen.
Consultation with a professor of oncology is necessary if:
– compare all the methods of treatment possible in your specific case, evaluate their effectiveness and negative consequences;
– to clarify the possibility of using new methods of cancer treatment, in particular, antitumor immunotherapy;
– learn about clinical trials on your disease and about the option of participating in them.
To determine further tactics of treatment and correction of anticancer therapy, the active participation of the patient himself is required. Therefore, when going for a consultation with an oncologist, you need to prepare:
– Collect all the documents that you have in your hands: certificates, extracts, medical records, test results, and research;
– write down in a notebook all the information that you want to tell the doctor and prepare a list of questions you want to ask;
– if you are afraid that you will not remember what the doctor will say, take someone close to you to the appointment.
