Cell therapy for chronic wounds
Traditional approaches in the treatment of patients with chronic (long-term non-healing) wounds and venous trophic ulcers are often ineffective, and sometimes wholly inapplicable.
Specialists of the cell therapy department have mastered an innovative technology for the treatment of non-healing wounds using a biomedical cell product (BMCP) based on the patient’s skin fibroblasts.
A unique method of cell therapy is based on the ability of fibroblasts to accelerate the healing of wounds and trophic ulcers by affecting the growth and division of skin cells, the synthesis of the extracellular matrix, the production of growth factors and the formation of capillaries. To obtain a cell transplant, the patient’s autologous fibroblasts, cultured in the laboratory of the Institute, are used.
The course of cell therapy includes several BMCP transplants. It ensures the healing of the wound defect with complete restoration of the skin, which significantly improves the patient’s quality of life.
However, the success of the treatment is determined by many factors and depends not only on the nature of the ulcer or wound itself but also on the general condition of the body. The decision on the possibility of using cell therapy methods in a particular patient is applied after a comprehensive examination.
